FOR “ENGAGEMENT PHOTOGRAPHY”

Photography

Engagement photography is the precursor to the actual event. It shows the couple’s love and makes the wedding more visible. It is crucial that you do your research to ensure that photography is creative, interesting, entertaining and love-struck for the couple.

1. ENGAGEMENT PHOTOGRAPHY PREVIEW THE COUPLE

It’s not my intention to screen the couple before you sign up to work with them. This might be a good idea in certain cases. It is a good idea to get to know these people in advance. You can meet them for coffee, lunch or just a chat on the phone. To get engagement photos that you want, it’s important to understand what they really want. You can get a sense of their personalities and their chemistry.

2.  ENGAGEMENT PHOTOGRAPHY KEEP THEM CONNECTED

This is a great tip for engagement photography. Keep the couple in touch. They will be nervous, especially if they don’t feel comfortable around you yet. But do your best to keep them connected. Here’s my next tip.

3. PDA IS OKAY (AND NECESSARY!)

An engagement session is a different experience than a regular headshot, model, family or family shoot. You need to keep in mind that the main theme of these photos is love. You need to make the couple feel comfortable. They should hug, kiss, hold hands, play, laugh, touchy-feely, mushy gushy, and have fun. This makes the photos more personal and human.

4.AS ALWAYS…”BURST MODE!”

This seems to be a common theme in my articles. Engaged photography should always be done in burst mode. They will likely be nervous so they will take a more natural pose after their initial stiff pose. They will soon relax, smile, laugh, and look at one another. These are the moments that you want to capture more than anything.

5. LOCATION IS CRUCIAL

You may be familiar with great locations in your area for engagement photos if you’ve been taking pictures, particularly engagement photography shots, for some time. You should prepare a list of interesting locations that you can recommend to the couple. Most likely, they will be open to hearing your suggestions and will listen to them. Couples often travel to other cities for engagement photos, so be sure to find some spots that are visually appealing.
